Abandoned Goods

Purpose

This procedure contains the instructions for handling goods that appear to be abandoned.

Procedure

• We must contact Consumer Affairs if a tenant has been evicted or abandons a premises and leaves goods behind.
• We fill in the Consumer Affairs ‘Request for Goods Left Behind Form’ and fax to Consumer Affairs 9627 6223
• The representative attends the property and provides us with instructions for the goods. If most of the goods left behind are worthless, then they can be disposed of. If the goods left behind are worth something, there are procedures to deal with them.
• Consumer Affairs provides those instructions when they attend the property. Auctioning goods is very rare as most often what is left behind is only fit for the skip or the tip.
